St. Rose of Lima Catholic School

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School is named after the first canonized saint of the New World who was born in 1586 and died in 1617. Fearing vanity, she cut off her hair and blistered her face with pepper and her hands with lime.

The school is located in the Municipality of Santa Rosa in Nueva Ecija, the “rice granary of the Philippines.” During Spanish colonial times, the locality was called “Banga-Banga,” after the baked clay jars that residents used to store water. A former barrio of Cabanatuan, local leaders sought its conversion into an independent municipality; when their petition was granted, Banga-Banga became known as Santa Rosa, after an image of the saint that was found inside the abandoned Spanish headquarters.

The mission of the school, which is managed by the Diocese of Cabanatuan, is to serve its church and society, while being committed to the improvement of the quality of life in the community and contributing to the empowerment of the marginalized. Its vision is to see its students grow and develop into critical thinkers imbued with a Christian orientation.

High school students pursue four years of study. Each year or level is comprised of five or six sections of 40 to 50 students each.
